DEI at IAFSS 2026
DEI principles are consciously incorporated throughout the Symposium. This includes:
- Balanced committees, speakers, and awardees
- Childcare
- Handicap accessibility
- Accommodating dietary restrictions (Halal, Kosher, vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free)
- Private room(s) available for quiet escapes, breast-feeding, prayer, etc.
- Virtual option for those unable to travel
- Optional badge stickers to show your support, available at registration desk
We’ve also worked hard to develop an active social program:

At the welcome reception, gather to hear about your colleagues: where they’re originally from, something about their culture, and how they got into fire science
Monday evening
ECR mixer
We will initiate a buddy system to partner the more experienced with early career researchers to facilitate introductions and connections during the week.
Tuesday lunch
Women, non-binary, allies luncheon
We ask gender minorities and their allies to sit together at lunch on Tuesday for informal conversations. Additional formation of buddy partnerships are encouraged.
Wednesday evening
LGBTQIA+ and allies social (offsite)
Create a space where the LGBTQIA+ community can meet, socialize, and build a support network. Allies are highly encouraged.
Thursday lunch
LGBTQIA+ and allies sharing circle
Bring your lunch to a private room onsite to participate in a formal sharing circle. Discuss what brought you to the sharing circle, how gender/sexuality influences your work, and what you would like to see in IAFSS moving forward.

Buddy system building towards formal post-event mentoring program
Exhibition
Showcase your company at IAFSS 2026. You are a startup, a SME, a large corporation... You want to exhibit new products, new technologies, new researches...
