Manuscript requirements

  • Original work and must not have been submitted to another forum
  • Manuscripts must be no more than 16 pages in length, with text in single-spaced 12-point Times New Roman and 1-inch page margins.
  • The title, abstract, keywords, figures, and figure captions are subject to the page limit.
  • References, acknowledgments, and author contribution specifications are not subject to the page limit.
  • Supplementary materials are permitted but are not encouraged.
  • Papers must be submitted directly to Fire Safety Journal’s Editorial Manager (EM) system. When submitting the paper, please select the special issue tag “FISJ_IAFSS 2026”.

The authors must also identify the selected research track in the letter to the editor. Submitted papers will be subject to three independent peer reviews.
Papers will be accepted for oral presentation at the symposium based on their quality and originality. The papers accepted for presentation will undergo a second round of evaluation, which may include additional reviews, to determine whether they meet the standard for publication in a special issue of the Fire Safety Journal.

Full papers

  • September 24, 2025
    Submission deadline for full papers. Elsevier FSJ Submission system closes on September 25 12:00 am Pacific Standard Time (GMT-8hrs).
  • October 4, 2025
    Desktop rejection will be sent to authors. All other papers will go through a peer review process.
  • November 14, 2025
    Authors will receive reviews and will be asked to prepare a rebuttal (max 900 words)
  • December 2, 2025
    Rebuttals are due, to be submitted via the FSJ EM.
  • January 8, 2026
    Decisions for symposium oral presentation acceptance/rejection will be sent out.
  • February 15, 2026
    Authors should submit the full rebuttal and paper revision to FSJ Editorial Manager system. Start journal publication review/revision process. 
  • June 1, 2026
    Authors notified of selection for publication in Fire Safety Journal

Submission & Destop evaluation

Submission (by September 24, 2025)

  • Submission system (FSJ Editorial Manager Special Issue FISJ_IAFSS 2026) opens on August 25, and closes for submission on September 25, 12:00 am Pacific Time (PT). No extension will be granted. 
  • Please choose a technical track that best matches the scope of the paper. Program Co-Chairs have the discretion to move a paper to a different track if they see fit.

Desktop evaluation (September 24 – October 3, 2025)

  • All submissions will go through a preliminary review step by the program committee. A desktop rejection decision can be made without further peer review if the paper is:
    • Out of the scope of IAFSS symposium
    • Poorly written (e.g., too long/short, significant language issue), poorly organized and/or are not formatted in accordance with the symposium requirements.
    • Clearly lacking in scientific content, rigor, novelty, or have been plagiarized
    • With apparent technical quality issues
    • In close resemblance to published papers, or part of a mass submission on a similar topic
